Biography
David Gooden, known as Dave Angel, was born May 13, 1966, in Chelsea, London, the son of a jazz musician and older brother of rapper Monie Love. He came up through London's acid house explosion in the late 1980s, hosting a pirate radio show on Phaze One alongside Fabio and Grooverider, and in 1989 produced his first track, a controversial remix of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams," which RCA officially released after it took off in clubs, reaching number 23 on the UK charts.
Signed to Island Records, he released the albums Tales of the Unexpected (1995) and Globetrotting (1997), blending Detroit-styled techno with jazz and soul influences, and put out a string of club hits on labels including R&S Records and his own imprint, Rotation Records, which gave early opportunities to producers including Vince Watson and Steve Rachmad. He remains active in techno and tech house today, releasing 2018's "Belle Âme" on Rotation and 2023's "Glide" on Radio Slave's Rekids.
