Biography
Magdalena Chojnacka, known as Magda, was born in Zywiec, Poland, and moved with her family to the US at age nine, settling first in Texas before moving to Detroit's Hamtramck neighborhood in 1986. She got deeply into Detroit's techno scene around 1994 after attending Richie Hawtin's Spastik party at the Packard Plant, and by the late 1990s was DJing local clubs and underground parties around the city.
In 1998 she joined Hawtin's Minus label and began touring the world as his opening DJ, a partnership that took the M_nus collective from Detroit-Windsor to Berlin, where she's since been based. She released her debut mix, She's a Dancing Machine, on Minus in 2006, and co-founded the label Items & Things with fellow Minus artists Troy Pierce and Marc Houle, releasing music including the 2010 EP From the Fallen Page and remixing artists like Plastikman and Depeche Mode.
