Jumping Jack Frost

Nigel Thompson, known as Jumpin Jack Frost, was born in Brixton, London, in 1967, and found his way into music through the area's sound systems, working as a box boy before graduating to MC. He started DJing in 1987, playing reggae, funk, and rare groove before the acid house explosion, and became a fixture at clubs including Carwash, Sunrise, Heaven, and Labyrinth alongside Fabio, Grooverider, and Bryan Gee.

In 1993 he and Gee founded V Recordings, one of the most influential drum and bass labels of the era, launching the careers of artists including Roni Size, DJ Die, and Krust. His 1994 track "Burial," recorded as Leviticus with vocals from his sister Yolanda and engineering from a young Dillinja, became a genre-defining anthem and earned a MOBO nomination.
