Glenn Underground

Glenn Underground grew up on Chicago's South and West Sides, raised on disco, freeform jazz, and soul, and learned to DJ from his uncle while watching his band rehearse on a Fender Rhodes. He began producing tracks on tape in 1991 to mix into his own gigs, and a cut-up bootleg remix of Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" caught the ear of Cajual Records boss Cajmere, who began releasing his work as GU.

Cajual issued more than a dozen GU singles and EPs in 1995 and 1996 alone, while Underground also recorded for Britain's Peacefrog label, including his 1996 debut album, Atmosfear. He founded the Strictly Jaz Unit imprint with longtime friend Boo Williams, and has released across labels including Guidance, Prescription, and Dance Mania, becoming one of Chicago deep house's most prolific and respected producers.
