Benji

Benji Illgen, known as Mophono or DJ Centipede, was born in 1976 in the Bay Area, and founded Circuit Studios in San Francisco's Lower Haight for his experimental Thug Jazz and Dirt Wave productions. He played the underground rave circuit until an Oakland warehouse floor collapsed during one of his sets in April 1998, after which he shifted focus to the growing Bay Area beat scene, and has since performed live on Boiler Room with Gaslamp Killer and shared stages with DJ Shadow, Flying Lotus, Amon Tobin, and De La Soul.
